Your lab plan
One notebook for what you have, the weekend path, a simple closet map, house names, and later buys. Sign in with a username and a passkey. No email. No password.
- We don't ask for a name, phone, or address.
- Lose every passkey and the account is gone — add a second passkey here, or create a one-time enroll code for another device.
- Export or delete your data anytime.
New handles: 3–32 characters, start and end with a letter or number. Same rule as ByteRush.
Enroll this device
Already have an account? Paste the one-time code from a signed-in device to add a passkey here (no QR sync needed).
Notes stay on labthrift.com. Optional lessons are ByteRush — a sibling app with its own username and passkey, not this login. Same handle is fine; the passkey still will not travel. This app only stores your plan.
What already exists in the house — old PC, disks, switch, APs. One leftover box is enough: don't buy a second node. Expand an item for rough specs and attention flags. This list does not copy into ByteRush. Pick a role for a matching note and lesson. Longer walk: Stuff I have is not the feed.
Services you run (or plan to). Pick a host from Stuff, set rough RAM/CPU guesses. Presets are labeled guesses — not benchmarks. Each chip also links a note and a ByteRush lesson. Photos, movies, and Home Assistant wait: not the first service. A database waits: Postgres is not first. A pipeline waits: CI can wait.
Sketch of headroom — sums service guesses against host specs. Not live metrics. A battery box waits: you don't need a UPS yet. Learn: ByteRush.
House power / UPS
Check off Labthrift start path notes when you've done them. Guide links open the how-to. Labels and blurbs load from start-path.json — one list. Learn in ByteRush opens the matching lesson — a sibling app with its own passkey.
Rough rack sketch — not CAD. Pick U height, drop gear, label switch ports. Longer walk: the closet map is a sketch. Steel waits: a rack can wait. A cable first: ethernet on the leftover box. A later wall rack: 10-inch mini rack. ByteRush never draws this map: Stuff I have is not the feed.
Switch ports
Tap a chip to edit. Labeled ports tint copper.
Hostnames and fixed addresses. Copy a hosts-file snippet when you need it. How-to: find it on the house network. Pin the number: same house number. Short SSH name: laptop config. Learn: ByteRush. After it works: write the name here. Don’t punch a hole: NAT is why SSH stays inside. A VLAN waits: one house Wi-Fi is enough.
Pin Labthrift guide slugs you're considering, skipping, or already bought. Known start-path slugs also get a Learn in ByteRush link. Later-skip slugs work too — a-rack-can-wait, a-gpu-can-wait, one-laptop-key-is-enough, a-yubikey-can-wait, a-nas-can-wait, a-mini-pc-can-wait, a-mesh-can-wait, a-monitor-can-wait, a-firewall-box-can-wait, a-camera-can-wait, a-router-can-wait. Chips below pin those as skip. This is still a notebook, not a cart.

On iPhone/iPad: Share → Add to Home Screen.
Backup
Export a JSON copy, or replace this lab from a previous export (schema_version: 1 or 2).
Passkeys
Add a passkey on this device while signed in, or create a one-time enroll code for a device that is still signed out.
Enroll another device
Creates an 8-character code + link (15 minutes, single use). On the other device open the link or use the gate form below.
Sibling apps
Same house, separate locks. Export this plan before you wipe a phone. ByteRush progress is a different file on that app’s You page. ByteRush also mints its own enroll code there — a Plan code will not open it.
